TULSA-- The Broken Arrow teen who died in an accident on the beach in Florida is being remembered at his church in Tulsa for the many lives he touched.
17-year-old Travor Brown died in Panama City Beach, Florida after a sand tunnel collapsed on him. Brown was on vacation this week with the family of a close friend. Witnesses say he was on the beach and created a tunnel against a sand ledge but it collapsed, burying him underneath and eventually taking his life.
Dozens gathered Friday for a candlelight vigil in his honor at Park Plaza Church of Christ in Tulsa, where Brown was an active member of the youth group.
Those who knew and loved Brown remembered him as the free spirit they say he was--singing, acting and living his life to the fullest. Friends say he recently signed a modeling contract and was set to begin his senior year at Broken Arrow High School in the fall.
“He was constantly creating-- a lot of people that's what a lot of people that are close to him we're going to take out of this situation he was extremely talented and he used every opportunity he had to show that,” said close friend Kelsey Hausam.
A friend of the family created a Go Fund Me page to help the family bring Brown back to Oklahoma for a funeral.
The coroner in Panama City will do an autopsy before Brown can be brought back to Oklahoma. The family is hoping to have Brown back in Broken Arrow next week.
