The 2016 A through F report cards for all public schools in Oklahoma were released Thursday.

The State Board Review reports that overall “this year’s tally included 196 A’s, 455 B’s, 582 C’s, 319 D’s and 213 F’s. By contrast, in 2015, schools earned 212 A’s, 497 B’s, 536 C’s, 333 D’s and 183 F’s.”

Not long after the report cards were released, Tulsa Public Schools Superintendent Deborah A. Gist called the system “bureaucratic exercise that does not accurately measure school and student performance.”

TPS went on to say that “based on preliminary results, Tulsa Public Schools has four ‘A’ schools, six ‘B’ schools, eight ‘C’ schools, thirteen ‘D’ schools, and 45 schools with an ‘F’ grade.”

“We are interested in growth measures that reflect not only understanding of content and concepts, but also the pace at which students are learning and improving. It’s also important that we consider progress in critical areas such as school climate and culture, graduation rates, and attendance,” said Gist.

During this week’s meeting, the state board reports, the OSDE’s Fiscal Year 2018 budget, which requested $2.64 billion for common education, was approved.

The final report is expected to be delivered to the Oklahoma Legislature by February 3, 2017.
