SAPULPA, Okla. — The Sapulpa Fire Department said a woman died early Sunday morning in a house fire.

When firefighters arrived just after 3:00 a.m., they said the house was fully engulfed. Two people and three dogs lived in the home. Fire officials found a woman dead in the house.

A friend of the woman told 2 Works for You the woman was handicapped. Cindy Denton knew the woman for 20 years.

“I heard a big boom then I saw the fire trucks outside. I walked up here and this is what I found. My friend was gone," Denton said.

Denton said the two moved to the rural Sapulpa neighborhood around the same time and quickly became friends.

“I just used to drive by and she’d come out on the porch and smoke her cigarettes, so I’d stop and visit. I spent just several hours talking to her, ya know," Denton said.

She said the woman helped lift her spirits when Denton and her husband lost their own home four years ago.

The man living in the home was taken to the hospital. According to officials, two of the dogs and two cats made it out seemingly unharmed, but one dog was found dead..

"She’s going to be truly missed.”, Denton says.

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire.
