TULSA – The motion to accelerate the arraignment for Tulsa Police Officer Betty Shelby accused of first degree manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Terence Crutcher was filed and denied Thursday.

Attorneys of Shelby claimed that the arraignment date should be pushed up to September 29 from its original date of September 30. Official documents show that concern for Ofc. Shelby’s safety and “logistical concerns” in relation to the case gaining national attention from the media.

The document goes on to say that Shelby’s attorneys, Shannon McMurray and Scott Wood, believe changing the date could lower the number of people who might turn up at the courthouse.
