SAND SPRINGS, Okla. -- Families across Green Country are mourning the death of Evan and Cathy Crocker.

The two were killed when their jet ski collided with a boat on Keystone Lake on Sunday night.

For the last five years, the Crockers have taken families whose children are fighting cancer in a helicopter ride over the bright lights of Tulsa at Christmas time.

BW White, now 7-years old, was diagnosed with Leukemia when he was 2-years old. He underwent treatment for three and a half years.

BW and his family have gone for three years.

His mom, Dixie, said their family looked forward to it every year.

“I saw the helicopter and she told me helicopter rides and I was like, ‘Yes!’” BW said.

Flights for Lights is a time for families to forget about chemo and cancer and enjoy a happy time together.

“I think in treatment we have come across the person here and there that would do the very kind thing, but the Crockers were giving their time, love, blood, sweat and tears to make it happen for many kids,” Dixie said.

Learning about the Crocker’s untimely death was heartbreaking for the White family.

Dixie said Evan and Cathy were not the type that wanted recognition. She said Flights for Lights was just a labor of love for the couple that gave a silver lining to a dark cloud in so many families’ lives.

“You can only imagine the amount of lives they’ve touched and we’ve seen it from our own two eyes,” Dixie said.

The 2017 Flights for Lights has already been planned. It is unclear if it will happen.

Services for the couple are pending.
