MUSKOGEE COUNTY, Okla. -- The Muskogee County District Attorney's Office charged a Porum substitute teacher after receiving statements from police she had sex with a student.

Court documents state that Heather Lyn Robinson, 34, has been charged with sexual battery.

According to the documents and law enforcement officials, the 16-year-old student consented to oral sex.

In Oklahoma, the age of consent is 16. Authorities say Robinson was arrested due to her position as a substitute teacher.

Law enforcement officials said the teacher and the student had sex off campus at a nearby dam.

Prosecutors said in Robinson's charging documents the event took place on March 27.

Court records show Robinson is due back in court on April 21.

Prosecutors told 2 Works For You people who are convicted of sexual battery could face up to 10 years in prison and must register as a sex offender.

The district released the following statement:

As a representative for Porum Public Schools you can rest assured that the policies, procedures, and the law have been followed.  Any matter concerning our school district or personnel is taken seriously and handled in an appropriate manner.  As you know, this is a personnel issue, and I cannot discuss this topic any further.
