A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Titan Sports and Performance Center at 81st Street and Elwood on Tuesday morning.

Mayor Dewey Bartlett says the new sports complex will boost the economy in the area.

It's expected to bring at least 50 jobs and $6 million in annual revenue. Mayor Bartlett says it'll be the largest of its kind in the state.

The 175,000 square foot facility will feature 38 indoor and outdoor fields: 16 volleyball courts, 10 outdoor soccer fields, eight basketball courts, two outdoor lacrosse fields and two indoor soccer fields.

The site will host state and regional games for soccer and basketball.

Titan will also offer a fitness center, an athlete training center and a sports medicine hub.

Construction is expected to be completed in the summer of 2017.
