TULSA, Okla. — A plane made an emergency landing Friday afternoon in southwest Tulsa, according to the Tulsa Police Department.
Tulsa police said the pilot landed in the field near 81st Street and Highway 75 after it had a mechanical failure.
Flight plans show the plane took off after 2 p.m. from the Richard L. Jones, Jr. Airport in south Tulsa and it was headed for Wichita, KS. About 20 minutes later, police received a call that the plane was having problems.
No one was injured in the incident, and the plane appears to be undamaged. The pilot also narrowly missed power lines and the highway to land.
"I'm kind of proud of the pilot. He landed in an area where he didn't disturb traffic, but he also didn't disturb other people or injure anyone," said Sgt. J.W. Sherrill with the Tulsa Police Department.
The plane is registered to a pilot out of Ohio.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating why the plane went down.
