Students at Porter Consolidated Schools are starting later than usual due to building repairs.
"Teachers had their classrooms pretty much ready to go, had rooms decorated and had things in order," said Superintendent Mark Fenton.
The start date was set for August 10, but classes are now starting on August 29.
Superintendent Fenton said roof repairs in the middle school and headstart program have begun. The two buildings lost their roofs in the July 14 storm.
This caused water damage inside the classrooms, and the carpets and desks had to be removed.
"Without a doubt, this has been the most significant damage to our campus in a long time," said Fenton.
The school's gym has been transformed into temporary classrooms to accommodate the teachers.
Superintendent Fenton hopes the building repairs finish by mid-September.
