The charges for a Tulsa mother, who was originally arrested for child abuse and neglect, have now been upgraded to child abuse murder following the death of her 7-month-old baby.

The event's leading to her arrest began Tuesday when her 7-month- old son was rushed to the hospital after he was found unresponsive.

"This little boy was found to have a brain injury that usually comes from some kind of strike or shake, it's not something that is an accidental injury," Cpl. Greg Smith said.

TPD then opened an investigation, and found Lewis likely caused the injury, and a warrant was put out for her arrest

She was originally charged with child abuse, however, further investigation found Lewis' 16-month-old daughter showing signs of possible neglect.

"[She] had severe, untreated diaper rash that should've been cared for," Smith said.

The little girl was taken into DHS custody. Lewis’ 7-month-old son was taken to a nearby hospital where authorities confirmed he later died.

The father of the children, Jonathan Myers, 22, was arrested on May 24, 2016 for outstanding burglary and vehicular assault that is believed to be unrelated to the child abuse investigation. Authorities say at this time, Myers is not expected to be included in the child abuse or neglect charges.

This death is Tulsa's 24th homicide of the year. Overall, according to TPD, four of the homicides have been children for this year.
