A man fatally shot by his neighbor in south Tulsa Friday evening has been identified.
Police say 37-year-old Khalid Jabara was shot in the neighborhood near 93rd and Memorial. He died after he was taken to the hospital. Several witnesses told police the suspect was the man's 61-year-old neighbor, Vernon Majors.
Police said after the shooting, Majors pointed his gun at a witness and left the scene. They believed he was headed to his house, but Majors was found hiding behind a tree at Hardesty Regional Library.
Majors was taken downtown but before he could be interviewed by police, he became ill and was transported to the hospital.
Police said Majors has a criminal history with the neighbors. He is awaiting trial for aggravated assault involving the mother of Friday night's victim.
Police recovered a handgun.
Residents in the area tell 2 Works For You the suspect and victim had some animosity for quite some time.
The homicide represents Tulsa's 39th in 2016.
