A Lakeside woman says their family dog was attacked and killed by a mountain lion in their backyard.
Danielle Von Horn says she couldn't find her pug Chloe Wednesday night, so she went outside to look for her.
“And I saw an animal standing in this corral," Von Horn said. "And I thought it was one of my mini horses because it was so big.”
She realized it was a mountain lion as it ran away, and then she found Chloe dead.
"Her back end was chewed up," Von Horn said. "And she wasn’t alive, so we buried her last night.”
Von Horn posted signs on the community mail boxes that warn "mountain lion present in the area."
“He had to have jumped two fences so they can get anywhere,” she said.
Von Horn reported the sighting to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
