Right now, the 2020 Summer Food Service Program is looking for new and returning sponsors.

This program provides nutritious meals at no charge to children during the summer when school is not in session.

State superintendent Joy Hofmeister said the Summer Food Service Program helps kids return to school ready to learn.

The SFSP focuses on two types of children: those from needy areas who are participating in summer educational or recreational programs and eligible children enrolled in summer camps.

According to Oklahoma Feeding America, in Oklahoma, more than 621,000 people are struggling with hunger, and of them, more than 213,000 are children.

That is one in five children.
