Hundreds of people applied for the role of Director of the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority after State Question 788 passed in June.

The OMMA said Friday that 282 people applied for the position, which has a biweekly salary of $3,533.50. The filing deadline for the position was July 5.

According to the state of Oklahoma's website, the director would oversee the direction of the agency and develop and implement policies and regulations for the agency, among other tasks.

Earlier this week, the Oklahoma State Board of Health adopted new medical marijuana rules that eliminated a ban on smokable marijuana and a requirement for pharmacists to be present in dispensaries.

A push for recreational marijuana has also gained traction in Oklahoma, as a petition for State Question 797 has hit its goal for signatures with time left to spare.
