Bird Creek bridge on Highway 169 was demolished Sunday morning as a crowd gathered to watch.

"I'm sad to see it go, but it'll be a good thing for Oklahoma and Owasso area for sure," said Adam Anderson who brought his eight-year-old son to see the implosion.

The demolition is part of a $45 million widening project of the roadway.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is widening the highway from four to six lanes between 56th Street North and 66th Street North.

An ODOT spokesperson says it's meant to improve traffic in the area, mainly during the morning and rush hour.

The northbound bridge is still standing, but will also be demolished in the future.

2 Works for You reported on the construction project, which started this summer.

Eight bridges will be demolished in total. They have been deemed to be in poor condition.

The project is scheduled to be completed by 2017.
