TULSA, Okla. — Bixby has an different plan for bringing Green Country students safely back to school.

While some districts have returned completely in-person, or completely online, Bixby is testing them both out at the same time. They've created two groups: cohort blue and cohort red.

Students with last names beginning with A-K, cohort blue group, start school August 17th. Theses students will go in-person through Thursday.

On Friday, Aug. 21, the blue group will have distanced learning at home.

Next week, on Aug. 24, students in the cohort red group, with the last name beginning with L-Z, will return to school.

While one group is learning in person, the other group has the week off. That means student have no school in-person or at home.

All students will be in distanced learning instruction Monday, August 31 through September 3.

Administrators said they'll decide how to handle the rest of the year by Sept. 8.

One Bixby mom said she was hesitant in sending her two kids back to school, but believes this method will work for her.

“It was the way that Bixby was going to do it, they're going back so slowly, easing into it, and I just felt like that was the best way to do it,” Jamie Barnes said.

Bixby school administrators say this method will help them decide the safest option for all students by observing spikes in sickness or the spread of COVID-19 over the next few weeks.

Temperature checks and masks are required for all staff and students.
