TULSA -- The Brady Theater in downtown Tulsa will be renamed the "Tulsa Theater" in 2019, according to owner Peter Mayo.
Mayo and his management team have been in talks to rename the theater since the 2013 renaming of Brady Street to M.B. Brady Street.
The Tulsa city council's vote to change the name of M.B. Brady Street to Reconciliation Way in July 2019 solidified that it was time for the venue to change its name, according to the owner.
A giant stainless steel "Tulsa" sign, pictured above, will be hung on the theater. The sign had previously hung from the then Tulsa Municipal Theatre from 1952 to 1979 and been stored for 40 years by Gaylord and Judy Herron of G Oscar Bike Shop.
“Gaylord understood the sign’s importance to Tulsa history and I am grateful. Because of him, we have this beautiful, sculptural sign preserved," Mayo said.
