City plans to announce public safety grant for south Tulsa neighborhood

TULSA -- One of Tulsa's roughest neighborhoods could be getting a facelift near 61st Street and Peoria Avenue.

The Savannah Landing apartments, formerly known as Fairmont Terrace, was the scene of 2013's quadruple murder.

A faith-based group out of Cleveland bought the complex last year with plans to spend millions renovating. We still haven't seen those improvements. But Tuesday, the city plans to announce a public safety grant for the area.

City leaders have helped improve the neighborhood in the past. A community center and health clinic have been added in recent years.

But crime continues to be a problem.

In fact, police say a passenger shot a driver in the face near 63rd street and Owasso Avenue over the weekend.

Tuesday's announcement could finally bring a change to the troubled south Tulsa neighborhood.
