Clothing giveaways helping Muskogee families during ‘Tax Free Weekend'

Posted

Lots of tax free events this weekend, but what about those who can’t afford to shop at those retailers?

Several churches and charities in Muskogee stepping in to help.

“This gives parents a chance a little breathing room—maybe they can’t even afford to buy their kids a new pair of shoes this year—it’s just something that touches my heart,” said Sonja Crawley, a church volunteer.

Even with tax free weekends for back to school supplies and clothes, not everyone can participate.

This is where churches like Boulevard Christian in Muskogee are stepping in…

“It means a lot to me to see the positive that’s going on here in Muskogee,” said Crawley.

The church served 200 families and nearly 600 kids last year.

“It’s a blessing to the community, but it’s also a blesses our hearts even so much more,” said Marcia Gideon, the clothing giveaway coordinator for Boulevard Christian Church.

Boulevard Christian Church’s back to school giveaway focuses on clothes.

“We want those children to be happy that they’re starting school—to start off with a smile on their face, they feel good about themselves because they’ve got some nice clothes on when they go that first day,” said Gideon.

Doors open here Saturday at 10 o’clock at Boulevard Christian Church. It’s located at 17th and Shawnee.

Just down the road on Highway 69, Lifepoint Church is also giving away shoes.

A group is also hosting a back to school giveaway at Rotary park.
