TULSA, Okla. -- Medical marijuana is on its way to the Sooner state, but how much will it cost to get a license and then buy?
It's not going to be cheap. Initially, it's more than $200 and then another $100 to get a license to buy for two years.
"I’d say we probably have had 200 people come in today," THC2 owner Perry Jones said.
Green cannabis leaves are plastered on the window.
“I don’t want to go on the street to get my stuff because you get busted that way," Gary Callihan said. "You know so I am trying to do it the right way.”
To get a license, you need to have a doctor recommendation and a state driver's license.
“I lay in bed at night and I cry myself to sleep half the time," Callihan said.
Oh yeah, and a couple hundred dollars.
“We’re the state that is starting it now so we’re going to set our own market," Jones said.
THC2 says it's going to cost everyone who signs up $250 or $225 if you're a veteran. Plus, $50 if you don't have a primary care physician.
“I would come in and just see the doctor and then based on the things on our intake form and history of my family and self and then what he says would determine if I do qualify for that recommendation," Jones said.
So how much does it cost after you get a license?
"If insurance doesn't cover it, for the medical marijuana, it's just going to have to come out of your pocket," Callihan said.
There's no telling how much the marijuana will actually cost in Oklahoma, but to give you an idea 2 Works for You found prices online at a dispensary in Colorado.
Depending on the strain, a gram is $10 to $18, an eighth $30 to $50 and a fourth is $55 to $90. Plus, edibles are from $7 to $50.
“When I smoke weed, it lets me eat, I don’t get sick, it takes my pain away and it helps my anxiety and depression," Callihan said.
It's possible in 90 days Oklahoman's could be in the system for a license. It's a change that's made history.
“It helps more than a Percocet does," Callihan said.
