BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — An annual food tasting event is taking place in Bartlesville Tuesday afternoon to raise money for Agape Mission, a nonprofit organization that provides hot meals to people in need.
More than 30 restaurants will provide food samples at the Bartlesville Community Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The chair of the Empty Bowls fundraiser said the event normally brings more than 800 people during lunchtime for a good cause.
Agape Mission helps feed more than 4,000 people a month. In addition to the meals, the organization started the Food 4 Kids program in 2005.
"On Fridays during the school year, they give out 650 snack sacks out to school children who would not have anything to eat over the weekend. In Bartlesville, over 60% of the kids in schools are on reduced or free lunches," said Brenda Williamson, a volunteer at the mission and chair of the Empty Bowls fundraiser.
Tickets for the food tasting are $25 per person.
