Epic Charter Schools To Pay Over $530,000 In Fines

Epic Charter Schools has to pay more than $530,000 in fines.

The Oklahoma Department of Education says the half million dollar fine is due to the school overspending on administrative costs.

The money was used for consultants and several supervisory positions, such as staff for the superintendent.

The state says school districts with more than 1,500 students must keep administrative costs at 5% or less of their budget, and Epic went over that amount.

2 Works for You reached out to Epic who tells us in part, "We believe the penalty is the result of a coding error. We have had ongoing communication and meetings with the State Department of Education since late December to discuss this issue."

Officials say they will work with the department to make sure this incident doesn't happen again.
