SAND SPRINGS -- The sudden passing of a Green Country family's mother turned their world upside down.

But it's the constant reminder of her death from a security company that is making matters worse. The family said Guardian Security continues to send bills to the deceased, Anna Laura Adams, and refuses to cancel services.

“She cared immensely about everybody,” James Locut, Anna Laura’s son-in-law said. “She did not want anybody to be hungry or anybody to be without clothing or anything."

Anna Laura is described as a humanitarian.

“She was a great woman,” Locut said.

She was someone who loved giving more than receiving. Even in her early stages of dementia, Anna Laura gave. It's what made her happy. But this memory is now being overshadowed.

“We are very frustrated,” Locut said. “This just adds to the misery."

It is the misery of losing Laura Anna at 94, and even worse, battling a company who refuses to cancel her home security system.

“To me it’s just a legalized scam to keep taking money from somebody,” Locut said.

When Locut’s mother-in-law died in July, he attempted to cancel her Guardian Security System. He called on the phone, and even sent in her state issued death certificate.

"They told me that it didn't matter that we sent it in,” Locut said. “That the person that gave the information to the state for her death had to be the one sending it in.”

To comply, that person then attempted to go to the Guardian Security office to end this once and for all.

“They told him he could not come out to their office and sign, or anything like that,” Locut said.

Sure enough, another bill showed up, addressed to Anna Laura.

“To her memory, it's just a slam at it,” Locut said,

2 Works for You called Guardian, and representatives said Thursday that they are handling the situation, and they will take care of cancelling the service. The company said the family will not have to pay the bills after they sent in the death certificate.

The family said although the bill is only about $30 a month, it’s more about getting the respect their mother deserves. It’s also to make sure this does not happen to anyone else.
