TULSA - The nation’s largest veterans service organization hit a big milestone.
The American Legion Post 1 celebrates 100 years in Tulsa this year.
It's the oldest continuing post in the nation, helping nearly 1500 local veterans every single year.
The organization helps veterans file claims so they can receive the VA benefits they earned through serving our country.
They also help with other needs such as finding them shelter, giving them food and utility assistance, services they’re only able to provide because of donations from the community.
Commander Bryan Davis said the post has seen a lot over the decades, living through two World Wars, the Vietnam, Korean and Gulf wars.
“The world war I veterans really started the American Legion and they actually, the American Legion started the Veteran’s Administration. So, as each generation of warriors has come home, they’ve added to our roles and contributed," said Davis.
Davis said the biggest challenge they face now, is involving younger veterans in their organization so they can continue serving for the next 100 years.
Starting Friday, the post will host different events throughout the week which include a flag ceremony at 6 p.m. and a Traveling Veterans Museum and Open house which opens Saturday.
All of the events are open to the public.

Sunday June 16th, 2019- Traveling Veterans Museum & Open House 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Burgers or Chicken sandwiches w/potato salad ($5.00)
Monday June 17th, 2019- Bingo Tonight Doors Open @ 5:15 p.m. Bingo starts @ 6 p.m. - Happy Hour in the Clubroom 4-7 p.m.
Tuesday June 18th, 2019- HAPPY BIRTHDAY POST 1- E-Board meeting @ 5:00 p.m., Birthday dinner & cutting of the cake @ 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday June 19th, 2019- Live Music w/David Bright @ 6 p.m. Happy Hour 4-7 p.m. Food by Mike (TBD)
Thursday June 20th, 2019- 2 chicken kabobs w/rice @ 6:00 p.m. ($5.00) $2 ea extra kabob. Happy Hour 4-7 p.m.
