MCALESTER, Okla. — McAlester Public Schools announced a middle school student tested positive for COVID-19.
The student attended Puterbaugh Middle School .
Officials said they are protecting the student's privacy but want to be transparent with the community and families.
McAlester schools is working with Pittsburg Country Health Department at this time. They will determine who was in close contact with the student and ask those individuals to go into quarantine.
Our greatest priority is the safety of our students, staff and community members. It is important to remember that children are greatly influenced by the reactions of adults when facing difficult circumstances. I encourage everyone to remain calm and to be empathetic and respectful to those affected.
