TULSA — In today's Mindful Moment with Mike, we have a message for all the moms out there feeling the stress of home schooling, working from the house and still managing the family.
We feel your pain.
Mike Brooks found someone he considers a "Super Mom" to get advice on how to stay sane, with all the insanity.
Laura Hernandez is one busy mom.
She has 10 kids between the ages of 10 months and 14 years old, all home schooled.
Seven of the children are biological and three are adopted special needs kids.
She knows what it's like to have so much pressure being placed on you, so she's developed a system to bring peace and calm to any home.
"I think that we as a society see ourselves as being busy and overwhelmed, it's like a status thing that we're really prideful about, and I don't think life should be lived that way. I think that we should delegate things out and get things off our plate. So, if mom could shift her mindset from doing all the things to being a manager and delegating out things, that would be wonderful," Hernandez says. "I'm really encouraging mamas to block schedule their time like 'Hey, in the morning we're going to do school for three hours and then if we don't get done, we're not going to stress about it. We're just going to work for three hours and be done.' I know that everybody is getting instructions from their teachers, and there's a ton of information on there...it can be really overwhelming and stressful. Even if you have just one. But then, add multiple children and it's just... too much. So I'm encouraging mamas just to pick three things that they want to focus on with their kiddos. So, for our family it's math, writing, and reading. I feel like if we get those things done, we're rocking and rolling, right?"
We asked if Hernandez had any words of advice for the moms here in Tulsa and Green Country, who are feeling overwhelmed and anxious about all that's going on and all that's asked of them?
Hernandez says "Yes, are you ready for this? Wouldn't it be great if our kids could tell their kids and grandkids about what a great time we had together as a family. Like what if that was the focus they really took home from this. If we can hone in on just being kind and just taking advantage of this time at home, and the calmness and the easy going-ness of life right now, like how great would that be?"
