More than a half a million Oklahomans are expected to hit the roads this Thanksgiving holiday and nearly 50,000 are expected to fly.

The low gas prices are attracting many travelers in Tulsa.

"I think more peopel are able to travel with gas prices down, and it helps everybody," said Charlene Evans, who's traveling to Texas to be with family.

Oklahoma has the lowest average gas prices compared to the rest of the nation.

In Tulsa, the average gas price is $1.84 per gallon for unleaded. The national average is $2.13 per gallon, according to AAA.

Experts are reminding you to be safe on the road.

"Give yourself extra time, wear your seatbelts and minimize distractions. Put that cellphone down until you reach your destination," said Cristi Goettel from AAA.

Also, the number of travelers nationwide is expected to be the highest since 2007 when more than 50 million Americans traveled during the holiday.

This year, 48.7 million Americans are expected to travel more than 50 miles from home to their destinations.
