OBI hosting Back the Blue Blood Drive in honor of Tulsa officers shot in the line of duty

TULSA, Okla. — Oklahoma Blood Institute is hosting the Back the Blue Blood Drive in honor of TPD Sergeant Craig Johnson and Officer Aurash Zarkeshan.

On June 29, 2020, Zarkeshan and Johnson were shot during a routine traffic stop in Tulsa. Johnson died the next day from his injuries. Zarkeshan continues to make progress in his recovery.

OBI officials said the blood drive is to honor the sacrifices made by the Tulsa police officers, according to an official press release.

All donations from the drive will be tested for coronavirus antibodies to help identify possible convalescent plasma donors.

The Tulsa Police Department Foundation will be at the blood drive accepting monetary donations for their yearly Random Acts of Kindness holiday event.

All donors participating in the event are required to wear a mask, officials said.

All donors who give blood will receive:

  • Limited edition Boots & Badges t-shirt
  • $5 Oklahoma Joe’s BBQ coupon
  • Choice of one free entry to Science Museum Oklahoma or Frontier City in Oklahoma City or two free entries to Safari Joe’s H2O Water Park in Tulsa
