SKIATOOK, Okla. — Officials said reports Friday of shots fired at Skiatook Mid-High and High School were false.

The schools temporarily went on lockdown after a concerned parent called police just before 12:30 p.m. and said shots were fired at Skiatook Middle School, but there were no shots fired, police said.

Police immediately responded to the school, but no danger was found. It was determined that a student overheard other students talking, misinterpreted what they were saying, and sent out a group text which got "completely out of hand," police said.

The schools are no longer on lockdown and there was never any danger.

The matter is still under investigation.
