TULSA, Okla. — In just weeks, school will be back in session, but that doesn't include leaving home for many families.
Tara Dawson is a Tulsa mom, transitioning into a home school teacher for her two children.
She tells 2 Works for You she'd been thinking about homeschooling for years. Now, she's finally decided to home school her two children for the upcoming school year.
Unlike many families, they had a bit of a head start. Dawson said her family is using the Global Village Curriculum this year.
She believes it will give her children more time to follow their love and interests outside of their regular class time instruction.
Dawson said it's a more economical and environmentally conscious curriculum. The curriculum enables her to teach her children subjects like English and Science in a creative way.
Dawson knows it won't be easy.
In all my time researching homeschooling, the idea of home school, so many of the seasoned moms and dads who have been doing it, their greatest advice is, give yourself some grace.
Dawson said many experienced parents say it takes nine months, or longer, to find a rhythm.
She plans to go with the flow and work out the kinks from this school year as they come.
