Blood Donations Typically Decline in Spring Break

OKLAHOMA — The Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) is pushing for donors to donate blood ahead of spring break when many families will be out of town, and the state could face a decline of blood donors.

"It is important to donate blood year-round. We need 1,200 donors every day to meet the needs of our regional hospitals," says Jan Laub, the executive director of the Oklahoma Blood Institute.

Whenever there is an event or a holiday, such as spring break coming up, Laub explains people get busy and donating blood is not top of mind.

OBI is currently offering several incentives to blood donors, such as free passes to Frontier City Theme Park in Oklahoma City. Also, free t-shirts will be given and special coupons at Whataburger for a honey-butter chicken biscuit and Andy B's bowling fun pass.

For more information on how to become a blood donor, visit OBI's website.
