This summer, the food bank will produce and distribute thousands of meals each week for several feeding sites for students. It is part of their "Schools out, Meals In" program. According to the food bank, when children are out of school for the summer, they no longer have access to the free and reduced-cost meal program, which many families rely on.
The food bank tries to help fill that gap for families by providing meals for children in high-poverty areas during extended school holidays and over summer vacation.
It also engages a variety of partners each summer to help provide a Hunger-FreeSummer for children in eastern Oklahoma.
