Record-breaking year for organ donations in Oklahoma

An Oklahoma organization is celebrating another year of breaking records and saving lives.

For the sixth year in a row, LifeShare of Oklahoma had a record number of donors who saved lives through organ and tissue donations.

In 2019. the organization recovered 516 lifesaving organs from 197 donors, passing the all-time high of 188 donors set the year before.

These donations went on to save the lives of 455 patients.

"Every organ donor can save up to 8 lives and tissues donors can help enhance the lives of 75 people," said Kim Dentan, director of hospital development and family services.

Last year, LifeShare helped 68,000 people through tissue donations, which helped provide skin for burn patients, corneas for eyesight and heart valves.
