Sand Spring Public Schools release safety guidelines for 2020-21 school year

Sand Springs Public Schools released their 'Strategies for Start Up' plan for their 2020-21 academic year.

The Strategies for Start Up plan provides details for the district including employee and student guidelines, operation guidelines and health guidelines.

Officials said the plan's guidelines are updated frequently as information from the CDC, local and state health agencies change.

EMPLOYEE GUIDELINES

Before entering the building:

  • Employees must answer a health form and take their temperature prior to reporting to their work area each day.
  • If an employees temperature is 100.4° F or higher, they will not be allowed to remain at work until they are fever free to at least 24 hours, without medication.
  • Sanitize hands prior to entry if hand washing is not available.
  • Masks are provided for employees. However, they are NOT mandatory, but strongly encouraged in certain areas where social distancing is difficult.
  • Masks may be required after employee exposure

While in the building:

  • Limit size of gatherings as much as possible.
  • Try to maintain at least six feet of distance between individuals at all times
  • Use sneeze and cough etiquette
  • Wash hands vigorously (20 seconds or more) and routinely, or use provided hand sanitizer
    • Remember to wash hands/sanitize when handling any personal belongings.
  • Try to avoid using any areas that are not essential to your task.

Leaving the building:

  • Disinfect surfaces of the contact areas before leaving.

STUDENT GUIDELINES

Before entering the building:

  • Parents should keep students home if they are sick. Parents will need to notify the school
  • Parents are 'strongly encouraged' to take their student's temperature before coming to school
  • If a student has a fever, after arrival, they will be taken to the Nurse's Office. Per the CDC, a temperature is 100.4° F or greater
  • Parents will be contacted and the student will be required to return home until fever free for at least 24 hours, without medication
  • Before the student can return, a parent will be required to notify school
  • Appointed personnel at the building will assess whether a student is cleared to return to school
  • Masks are NOT being provided to students
  • Students are strongly encouraged but not required to wear masks

While in the building:

  • Individual Students:
    • Avoid close contact, less than 6 feet space, when possible
    • Cover, cough or sneeze in elbow or tissue and follow with hand hygiene
    • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
  • Routine hand washing is suggested every 2 hours
    • Wash hands with soap and water
    • Use hand sanitizer when hand washing is not practical
  • Students are highly encouraged to bring their own water bottle to school
  • Try to avoid large gatherings
  • Use rules of traffic flow in the hallway
  • Follow Student Health and Nurse’s Office Guidelines
