Sandy Park Apartments in Sand Springs evacuated

SAND SPRINGS — The Tulsa Housing Authority evacuated residents of the Sandy Park Apartments yesterday as a precaution due to its proximity to the Arkansas River.

THA and Tulsa Police Department worked together to swiftly and safely evacuate residents, including providing transportation by bus to a nearby shelter.

"We've been told the water is going to crest, but I don't have a timeline on that," said trooper J.D. Pyatt. "However we cannot guarantee the safety of the residence once it does break, so we are asking them to evacuate this complex."

Now once Sandy Park Apartments is determined to be safe for return, residents without access to transportation will be transported back to the site.
