Standing room only at Muskogee Highway 69 town hall

It was standing room only at Tuesday's town hall meeting in Muskogee about plans to move busy Highway 69 west of town.

The current stretch of the Highway 69 corridor that runs through Muskogee is filled with businesses, hotel and retail development.

Oklahoma Department of Transportation Director Mike Patterson was invited to speak at the meeting.

Muskogee's hotel and lodging association hosted the town hall event at the Marriott Fairfield Inn & Suites.

Organizers believe more than 350 people attended the session.

People had to listen from hallways or go into the lobby and watch the meeting from a TV.

Neighbors and business owners are torn over ODOT's long range plan to re-route Highway 69 from Summit to the Arkansas River.

Some fear the highway being moved out west will bypass Muskogee and kill future economic development.
