TULSA – The older of the two brothers accused of killing five family members reportedly attempted suicide inside his cell, says the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office.

The two boys Robert Bever, 19, and his 17-year-old brother, Michael, are charged with five counts of first degree murder in the deaths of their parents and three of their siblings.

TCSO confirmed that Robert was discovered attempting to hang himself with a sheet on June 17. Medical staff were able to cut him down and after examining him, concluded that he was uninjured. TCSO went on to say that Robert was place on suicide watch as a result.

In February, two Broken Arrow detectives took the stand at the boys’ preliminary hearing to discuss an interview with the 13-year-old Bever child that survived that incident. She said her brothers were interested in mass killings for at least a year before the incident occurred. She also recalled seeing knives and body armor on the bed of the boys the night of the killings.

The second detective that took the stand in February recalled an interview with Robert Bever. He claimed that Robert Bever laughed and joked during the interview and waived his right to an attorney. Robert said he first thought of the plan to kill his family when he was 13-years-old.

A motion was filed recently by Robert Bever’s defense team to limit emotion and remembrance of the victims in the courtroom.
