Tensions Still High Over Abortion In Oklahoma

Posted
and last updated

Tensions were high as hundreds gathered at the State Capitol in support of and against Senate Bill 13 which would ban abortion for any reason with no exceptions for victims of rape, incest, or to safe a person's life.

The bill would make it a criminal offense for anyone to be involved in an abortion and if convicted, they could go to jail for life.

While pro-life groups are supporting the bill, pro-choice activists say it's too absolute.

Republican Senator Joseph Silk, wrote SB13.

"Depending on what role the mother played or the father or the doctor or anyone else involved just like any other homicide there is a possibility of being prosecuted because it is taking an intentional life," Silk said.

The bill would also repeal any statute that regulates abortion and no longer classify abortion as a "health service" under Oklahoma law.
