TULSA - One elderly wheelchair-bound woman was killed, and another in her 20's was transported to the hospital in a house fireThursday night, according to a Tulsa Fire Department spokesperson.

Tulsa Fire Department Captain Stan May said firefighters were called to a house fire at 3411 E. 5th Place about 5:30 p.m. and rescued one female in the dwelling but could not save another.

The younger woman tried to save her grandmother and received minor injuries in the process. The fire was contained to the kitchen and living room.

May said the fire was contained in 15 minutes and that  it was too early to know the cause of the fire as the investigation was ongoing. The house was a total loss.

An EMSA spokesperson said the younger female was taken to Hillcrest Medical Center and was transported in non-emergent condition. Neither woman has been identified at this time.
