TULSA — Tulsa Police Department officers will be cracking down on yellow and red light violations during April, the department says. Police said anyone caught running a red light will be fined $250 and anyone running a yellow light will receive a $200 fine.
They're not giving any warnings this month. It's a problem Tulsa traffic police say they have to keep a close eye on, so this month is about reminding people why stopping at red lights is so important.
"If I can tell one person, 'here's your $250 ticket for a red light', and it stops them from running a red light again, and avoid a crash, then I think it's completely worth it," said TPD's Officer John Grafton. Grafton is in the department's Riverside Traffic Unit.
According to Tulsa Police, if the light turns yellow just as you're getting to the intersection, you're okay. But if you have time to slow down after the light turns yellow, you could be stopped.
Police say they are doing this because running lights can lead to severe or deadly crashes.
