TULSA - Three Tulsa police officers, Tulsa fire paramedics and EMSA paramedics helped deliver a baby boy at a house Wednesday night.
At 10:45 p.m. Officer D. Ross stopped a vehicle for driving erratically at 8100 East 11th Street.
The driver explained that his friend was going into labor at a nearby home.
"Usually you don't hear my friend's in labor, so we have to follow our gut. Officer Ross followed his gut, and it turned out to be a really good thing," said Officer Billy Burson, one of the officers who helped the woman feel comfortable before paramedics arrived.
Officer Ross then followed the driver to the 1200th block of South 89th East Avenue. He along with Officers Hoey and Burson received instructions from a dispatcher and were prepared for the delivery.
"About every second thought was 'Ok breath. Don't push. Where fire? Where's EMSA?'" said Officer Burson.
The fire department, however, arrived before the woman went into labor and helped with the delivery at 10:57 p.m.
"We heard the good cry, which you're looking for in those situations. It happened fast, but it was a special experience," said Ben Weber, an EMT and equpiment operator with the Tulsa Fire Department.
Police say the boy weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces.
EMSA transported the mother and baby to the hospital.
