The Boston Marathon took place in Tulsa, kind of, this year the race is virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fifteen thousand people around the world still signed up; 15 of those are here in Tulsa.

2 Works for You spoke with the organizer of the Tulsa Virtual Boston Marathon, Karl Ahlgren.

Ahlgren said, "when Boston came up with this option for us to be able to run this virtually, we thought 'wow let's do this in Tulsa.'"

Ahlgren and the other organizers wanted to make this an official race. They went out and got the course certified by the USA Track and Field.

That way, when the runners are running this Virtual Boston Marathon, they get an official time that will be recorded and accepted by Boston.

First place winner in Tulsa, Jeff Newsome, said, "I was supposed to run, I trained really hard for this race in March that was canceled. I had a lot of training in and was disappointed, but glad that I could come out and run a race and sleep in my own bed too."
