BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Union Public Schools announced Andersen Elementary will be closed Wednesday because there's no gas in building.

UPS officials said without gas, the building does not have heat or any way to boil water for food. The district said it hopes to have the issue fixed by Thursday, but added reopening Andersen Elementary could take longer than anticipated.

Oklahoma Natural Gas gave 2 Works for You more details about the issue:

Oklahoma Natural Gas’ response to a gas odor call at Anderson Elementary in Broken Arrow today revealed an issue on the customer-owned piping.

As a safety precaution, we turned off natural gas service to the property until the property owner is able to fix the issue and pass a city inspection.

As a reminder, if you think you smell natural gas, leave the area immediately then call 911 and the Oklahoma Natural Gas Emergency Line at 800-458-4251 (monitored 24/7). Do not use any electrical equipment such as phones, garage doors or light switches.
