TULSA -- After getting wounded in war, Ronnie Haney returned home without any greeting or "thank you." But all of that changed Tuesday as friends, family and even strangers came to tell him "welcome home" upon his return from a mission trip.
Haney, who serviced in the Vietnam War, was shot in battle and brought back on a stretcher. His homecoming was less than thrilling.
That's why on Tuesday, when Haney returned home with his son from a mission trip in Cambodia, community members gathered to give him the proper and well-deserved welcome.
"I never thought anything like this would ever happen," Haney said. "It means that every does appreciate the Vietnam vets. And all of the other vets."
The Patriot Guard Riders escorted Haney back to Okmulgee on Tuesday night to show their thanks to veterans.
