Vinita Public Schools high school student tests positive for coronavirus

VINITA, Okla. — Vinita Public Schools announced a student tested positive for COVID-19.

The announcement on Vinita school's Facebook page said the student goes to Vinita High School and has not been at the school since Aug. 26.

Officials are asking parents of high school students to pick up their kids if possible. Parents will be notified when their students can return to the high school, officials said.

High school students will start short-term distance learning, officials said, while other sites will continue with in-person learning.

School officials are following safety guidelines by the CDC and state health department to decrease the potential spread of the virus.

Student who were in close contact with the student will be notified by the school's administration.
