Firefighter hit by car during wildfires recovers

A Centralia firefighter who was among those battling fires Thursday was scheduled for surgery Friday morning.

The volunteer firefighter was struck by a driver who was going through heavy smoke. He was in the middle of trying to prevent the fire from jumping Highway 60 and hitting a home when the vehicle struck him.

According to the Centralia fire chief, the impact broke the volunteer firefighter’s leg and he was transported to a local hospital.
