TULSA, Okla. — Fox Cleaners, a family-owned business deemed as essential, has been serving the Tulsa metro area since 1984, and for the first time, it's had to temporarily close its doors to customers due to the pandemic.
"We saw people coming through regularly, but I could tell that everybody was just getting really nervous, including our employees," explains owner Maggie Fox.
In the last few weeks, the small business went from providing counter service, to drive-through and now only pickup and delivery at customers' homes.
This is to avoid in-person contact and follow social distancing guidelines. Other safety measures include wearing protective masks and gloves when handling the clothes that come in.
"We’re dealing with clothing that comes from anywhere. We don’t know what’s coming in or where’s it’s been or who’s been wearing it or who’s sick, who isn’t," says Fox.
Since the coronavirus crisis hit the area, Fox says she had to furlough several workers, but several others remain in order to keep serving the community. They're still offering dry-cleaning, laundry, wash and fold and other services.
“We’re really wanting to keep our production crew working as long as we can, and try to bring as many people back to normal pay level," says Fox.
Fox Cleaners is currently offering free services to healthcare professionals and first responders, including EMSA, police and fire departments to show their appreciation to frontline workers against COVID-19. The special deal will run until May 31.
Until restrictions are lifted, Fox says she and her staff will continue living up to their motto - "Life's Better When it's Clean."
