Child's mom told being left-handed is 'evil'

Posted

After a four-year-old boy was told using his left hand was “bad,” it’s started to gain national attention.

According to 2 Works for You NBC affiliate KFOR says the mother of Zayde Sands, Alisha, says her son used to always use his left hand.

“From picking things up to throwing things, to batting, to writing, to just coloring you’d do at home with him, he’s always, always used his left hand,” Alisha Sands told KFOR .

But when Alisha Sands asked Zayde why he started using his other hand for homework from his pre-k class at Okemah Oakes Elementary, he explained why.

“I just asked ‘Is there anything his teacher’s ever asked about his hands?’ And he raises this one and says, ‘This one’s bad,” Sands said.

Sands went on to say that after she inquired about the situation to her son’s teacher, she was given a note back. Sands said in the note, Zayde’s teacher associated being left-handed with being “evil.”

KFOR says the district’s superintendent said he doesn’t feel that Zayde’s teacher tried to make him write with his right hand, but admits the article being sent home crossed a line.

Now, as the story continues to gain attention, even some NBA players took notice and decided to send a video.
