CBD-infused foods become rising trend in 2019

Posted

Cannabidiol-infused foods are going to be the big food trend in 2019.

Cannabidiol (CBD)--a compound of the cannabis plant that is non-psychoactive or less psychoactive than THC—is used to help calm anxiety, inflammation and pain, without the feeling of being “high.”

This year, the option to add CBD in lots of different foods will be available, starting with breakfast.

The Cereal Box in Colorado allows customers to add a scoop of CBD powder to your milk. They’re not the only ones. Strava Craft Coffee is infusing their cup of joe with CBD.

Chris Bedrosian, baker and owner of Flora's Mercantile, even joined the CBD food trend, but for a more personal reason.

“In 2011, my sister died of cancer,” she explains. “She was 50 years old. It was a week after she turned 50, and it broke me."

Bedrosian believes if her sister had taken CBD, she wouldn’t have suffered through so much pain.

"So, I did six months of doing research, and then I started developing all these recipes, because that's what we started doing, a bakery named after my great grandmother Flora Farmer," she says.

Over the years, she's tested out all sorts of food using hemp. The bakery has made everything from dog treats to baked goods and even tea.

There's still limited research done on the effects of CBD, but that's not stopping people like Bedrosian from cooking with it.

Even restaurants are getting in on this trend. You can now order an entire meal infused with CBD in cities like New York, Los Angeles, Denver and San Francisco.
