A former corrections officer, who was on the run with a murder suspect, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, officials said.

Vicky White and murder suspect Casey White were located on Monday and led authorities on a chase near Evansville, Indiana.

Casey reportedly surrendered after crashing the vehicle. Vicky was taken to a hospital after shooting herself, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. The coroner confirmed she died Monday night.

Vicky was accused of facilitating Casey's escape.

The two reportedly had a “special relationship” before their disappearance nearly two weeks ago.

The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department in Alabama said Vicky used an alias to purchase a getaway vehicle.

The SUV was found abandoned in Tennessee on Friday.

"What I'm very thankful for tonight is that no one is hurt, no citizens were hurt, no law enforcement officers were hurt," said Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton.

Singleton expects Casey to be transferred back to Alabama in the coming days.
